New Page: Animalia

Posted on December 26, 2021January 30, 2025

I’ve always been drawn to animals, especially cats. I’ve always had animals around me and have grown up with various sorts, including chickens, dogs, a chinchilla, and gerbils. All have taught me something or other – whether to respect boundaries (but only after many years with cats and hundreds of cat scratches) or know when to step in. The most recent animal that has come into my life is Freya (see featured image), an Australian Shepard with a big heart and love for her people and poop. She grew up unsocialized and experienced issues that imprinted trauma into her life. It’s been a real journey with her, and I’ve found that we’re not just training her, but training ourselves. She needs extra time to adapt to new things and people, and it’s taught me that not all things need to be rushed. They will happen in their own time.

My photography has been less mushrooms lately, because of the inevitable snow and winter. So I find myself photographing the animals around me – life in its purest form. I’m drawn to their eyes, the holders of much detail and emotion.

Because of these recent photos, I’ve decided to start another page of photography, this one dedicated to the animal kingdom. You can find this page under Animalia, which is nested under My Photography. I hope you enjoy these pictures that celebrate and honour our natural connections to the beings and creatures we love, whether furry, fanged, scaled, winged, or hooved. Cheers!
