Vote for November’s Photo of the Month

Posted on October 25, 2022January 30, 2025

I feel like November is sometimes unfairly portrayed as a month of bleak life, a time when everything seems dead and brittle, life stretched to a thin breaking point. Maybe it’s because I’m biased from having a birthday in November, or maybe it’s my appreciation of life in its most subtle moments; but to me, November is more than a time of frost and freezing.

This month’s photos have a theme of mystery: the bright sun or the dark night. They have certain moods about them, and I chose this particular set because I believe it shows the balance of life and death, winter and sun, smoke and water. Choose the photo that speaks to you the most in this time of autumn equilibrium.

Just love the simplicity of the Oyster mushroom photo! Great focal points on those gills.
Thank you for your wise words and stunning photography!

My votes are for Photo 3 as I think you captured the profile of a fire fairy. The bright flame to the left is the profile of her face outlined by her long hair and the outline of her head is the fainter orange curved flames. Her ear pokes out of the middle of her hair and blends in with the flame that extends down to her shoulder. The flame to the right is her upper back.

For the geological side of me, Photo 4 also signifies our connection to rocks and water. It is the interaction between these two that stimulated and nourishes life. The erosion of the water breaks down the nutrients in the rocks to produce the many life forms on Earth., which are all simply compositions of water and minerals. I consider that we are related to all life forms and off-springs (no pun intended) of Mother Earth. I am grateful and respectful to our universal Mother!

I vote for #2, 3, 5, 6 and 7. I really love the rosehips one because it’s a herb that I adore, but those other photos are so interesting as well. I love the shot and the colors in the snail picture, the contrast in the fire one and the texture with the ice. And you said there’s no limit….hehe. Awesome work yet again dear daughter <3
