Between the mundane & the miraculous
Preternatural: beyond what is natural or common.
We live in a world full of preternatural occurrences, beings, and coincidences. A band called Moulettes share some of these extraordinary things in their 2016 album Preternatural – actually where I got the inspiration for this post’s theme. I highly recommend listening to this album’s ethereal and hypnotic music that speaks to a fascinating, curious world.
I talked about the difference between the ordinary and extraordinary in another one of these posts, but “preternatural” is such a unique and unusual word that I wanted to delve into this topic again with this definition in mind.
The most-voted for photo this last month was one of melting snow on strands of Dawson’s fur, a subject that’s both beautiful and enthralling for me to capture. I love any sort of water droplets in my macro photography and these ones are always exciting to look at. It’s another way of looking at the world – focusing on such tiny, delicate objects on such a large, powerful animal.
As a new year begins, I invite my readers to look for the preternatural in this world, whether it be enigmas, paradoxes, coincidences, or a little bit of magic. I believe that there’s more to life than just a 3D, physical plane. So much goes on unseen and unnoticed, including the wonders of the human body, strange and phenomenal energy fields, the power of music…
This is my invitation, to seek out and acknowledge the preternatural. It might just change your way of thinking, your way of seeing, your way of perceiving the world – and maybe even you. Let me know what you find between the mundane and the miraculous.
