Equinox

It’s been a slow spring this year. Sometimes it feels as if winter will never end, and though I enjoyed the grey days and quiet, snowy evenings for a while, the dragged-out season began to feel too much when another morning was blanketed in white and I had to shovel yet again.

However, I think a point of no return’s been reached now; shy spring crocuses show their faces from the soil, and grass greens and reaches for the sky. Snow dissolves into the ground and steam rises under the defrosting warmth of the sun. I heard robins for the first time a week ago, and it felt like a promise. The seasons are turning again. Winter’s contract fulfilled itself and turned back the clock to a new beginning.

I recently went to Kootenay Lake with my boyfriend and a friend on a mild, overcast day. There was still snow on the Selkirk mountains across the water, but it didn’t feel like a threat, just a reminder that winter is still here, but it’s coming to a close. I loved the colours in the landscape – navy blue mountains, ivory snow, silver and slate and smoke clouds, steel blue water, charcoal rocks, cream and khaki sand.

I really like how these photos came out – I feel that they reflect the metamorphosizing time of year. Plus, my boyfriend took some photos with my camera too, and I had to share since I love watching him trying to figure out how to use the damn thing. Sorry, Trustin, it’s too cute ;)
