Rabbits & Riverscapes

Posted on June 13, 2024August 20, 2024

A while ago, I went on a hike with my aunt on a trail near Creston called Balancing Rock, named for the giant boulder that seems to be precariously perched near the top of the path. This hike offers a beautiful view of the Creston Valley, looking across to the Skimmerhorn and Purcell mountain ranges. I was even lucky enough to get a few shots of a rabbit that may or may not have been domesticated before (it let me get quite close, which made for some photos I was very happy with).

Thank you Hazel, great collection. If given the chance to rename the trail, i would label it Balancing Boulder (BB for short-to give a more poetic ring and match your description of being a “boulder”, a more accurate geological nomenclature). Did you capture a purple ghost in the trees (third photo from last)? The date when taken would be beneficial to get a sense of seasonal timing (the photo of the rabbit does indicate budding on plants, but your description “a while ago” could be interpreted as last fall).

Thanks for your comment! I thought that speck of colour was just a phenomenon from the sun, but I like your interpretation of a purple ghost instead. Sher and I hiked the trail on March 25th.
