Not too long ago during a cold snap, the local lakes froze over and quickly became a popular skating spot. The smooth, unblemished surfaces were perfect for gliding or walking over. I was surprisingly one of the skaters – after a six-year hiatus I can’t say I was very graceful, but nonetheless it was a magical moment to be standing on top of thick ice surrounded by mountains.
The small sloughs and streams near the lakes froze over as well and created slippery walking trails through the marsh grasses, and these were what I found the most enchanting. Bubbles permeated the ice and dimpled the surface where they had met air and hollowed out; sunlight streaked across the dust on the frozen floor; my dog cavorted and slipped ahead of me as she chased her stick.
Here are some photos from my adventures there.

To my bubbly teenage granddaughter, Thank you for sharing your icy observations!
Love Grandpa Bill ❤️
Your comment made me laugh. Thanks, Grandpa Bill <3

“I roll with my kitties, and I’m as hard as ice.” Hehe…lovely photos Hazel!
Thank you, Mom… A comment that nearly brought me to tears O.O
Hi Hazel,
As I scrolled through the pictures I found myself thinking of old black and white sci-fi movies. 🎥
I could see that! Thank you for commenting, Nancy <3
You have such a beautiful perspective, thank you !
I’m honoured you think so. Thank you, Debbie!
You have captured an alternative universe where even time appears to be frozen. There are bubbles within bubbles, cascading bubble layers, galaxy like clusters, Saturn like with a surrounding ring, craters, endless shapes and configurations …….AMAZINGLY FASCINATING…many of these photos would fit well as a background for the previous “Sublimity” blog. I remain in awe by your talent/gift to expose us to the wonders of the world through each photo/art piece and every blog you have posted,….”Walking on Water” has captured a spiritual element many Christians may relate to….
I love your thoughts. Thank you!
