Waves, Wind, & Wilderness: Across Kootenay Lake

Posted on July 17, 2025June 26, 2025

At the end of May, I went camping with my boyfriend and his family across Kootenay Lake. We only stayed for one night and yet our trip was full of adventures. I hiked around in the beautiful birch forests near our campsite, swam in icy lake water, paddleboarded across rolling waves, caught two fish (sadly they unhooked themselves before I could reel them in) and learned some new fishing techniques, admired a vivid sunset and stormy weather, and came home sunburnt, sleepy, sandy, and happily exhausted from the voyage.

Below are the photo highlights from our camping trip. Thanks again for inviting me along, Trustin!

A forest/marsh glade just off railroad tracks.
Clouds reflected in a puddle.
A Galium sphinx moth.
Looking north up the lake.
A hint of a sunset appearing.
Darkness falling…
The next morning; a peaceful birch forest.
